- The IDE-fix "package" can be divided in 4 parts:
-
- ATAPI - allows use of ATAPI CD-ROMS (up to 4 units with adapter)
- CacheCDFS - FileSystem
- Utilities - CD32-Emulator, Audio Player, etc.
- IDE-fix - C= "scsi.device" replacement. Adds Autopark, SyQuest
- support, slightly faster, LBA addressing if possible, less
- MaxTransfer trouble, much faster with odd word aligned data
- (ShapeSifter does this sometimes!), allows 4 harddisks to be used
- (with adapter)
-
- These parts work quite independant, e.g. you can use CacheCDFS
- with ANY controller (yes, SCSI too!), ATAPI without IDE-fix,
- IDE-fix alone. If for some reason IDE-fix fails with a particular
- harddisk, you can use ATAPI for your CD-Rom and keep the old C=
- driver.
- However, the use of ATAPI together with IDE-fix is recommended, as
- a "complete" replacement of the C= device is more system friendly
- than "hacking" into the existing device (the C= device and ATAPI
- must share hardware resources). I've splitted the functionality in
- two parts as a backward compatibility insurance.
